We have an exciting line-up of events coming up at the Newport Opera House throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring and we invite you to join in the fun!  Take a look at our schedule and you’ll be sure to find something for your whole family, from our SILVER SCREEN & ICE CREAM for the kids featuring an animated movie topped off with an ice cream sundae buffet to laugh-out-loud comedy and toe-tapping music with Rusty DeWees, also known as THE LOGGER.  Popular favorites such as THE HALLOWEEN MASQUERADE DANCE, DANCING WITH THE NEWPORT STARS, WINTER CARNIVAL PAGEANT & DANCE and THE SUNSHINE TOWN SOCIAL will be back once again this year.

A fun family show full of songs, silliness and sweets!  Old-time vaudevlle acts fill the Newport Opera House stage with song, dance and rollicking comedy, all to benefit the Road to Independence, an organization dedicated to establishing and strengthening life skills for individuals who face daily physical and cognitive challenges. 

 

ANNUAL COMMUNITY TALENT SHOW

This hugely popular event is like a box of chocolates (as Bubba Gump would say!), you never know what you are going to get!  Everyone is a winner as the spotlight shines on talented individuals of all ages and new talent is discovered every year.  Why not try out and get your time center stage during our Community Talent Show?  Auditions will be held on Monday, September 16th at 6:30pm at the Newport Opera House.

 

A NIGHT OF STAND-UP COMEDY WITH CHAD BLODGETT & FRIENDS

Chad and his crew of stand-up comedian friends were a big hit here last year so we are having them back for a night of comedy that will certainly have you laughing out loud!  4-5 comedians will take the stage, most of whom have performed in New York, Las Vegas and other major citites across the country.  Subject matter is adult in nature so this event is not recommeded for minors.

 

FRANKENSTEIN – A RADIO PLAY

Newport’s own Keegan Osgood makes his directing debut with Mary Shelley’s classic story adapted for the stage as a “live” radio show!  Community actors read their parts from scripts giving voice to a range of characters and using props to create sound effects, just like it was done during the golden age of radio.  This great evening of entertainment is sure to get you in the spirit of Halloween!  This event made possible by a generous donation from DORR MILL STORE.

 

HALLOWEEN MASQUERADE DANCE

Tickets:  $20.00/pp in advance, $25.00/pp at the door  21 & over only – photo ID required for admittance

An annual favorite at the Newport Opera House, this spooktacular evening features the music of “LAST KID PICKED” and a costume contest with prizes awarded to winners from a variety of catagories.  Get a group of boys and ghouls together and have a monstorously wonderful time at the Opera House!

 

TASTE OF SULLIVAN COUNTY

Saturday, November 9, 2019, 4:30pm

Tickets:  $15.00/pp in advance, $20.00/pp at the door  21 & over only – valid photo ID required for admittance

This is a new event and one sure to become an annual happening!  Wine makers, craft breweries, distilleries, hard cider crafters and several food artisans from throughout Sullivan County will be on hand with their delicious wares for you to try and buy.  Sip samples from Widmer & Davis Distillery and Polyculture Brewery.  Test out nibbles from Aurora Bakery, The Old Courthouse Restaurant, Sunshine Cookshop, Ziggy’s Pizza, Garfield Smokehouse, The Anchorage Restaurant, Brook Road Inn and Destiny Acres Farm.  Come find out what extradordinary delicacies are right here in our own backyard!  This event partially funded by UNIVERSAL PHYSICAL THERAPY.

 

DANCING WITH THE NEWPORT STARS

Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, 2020,  7:00pm

Tickets:  Reserved Seating:  $26.00 – Adult , $21.00 – Student/Senior      General Admission:  $21.00 – Adult, $15.00 Student/Senior

The Opera House stage sparkles with Newport’s finest dancing contestants, each vying for the winner’s trophy!  A winning couple will be chosen each night so be sure to vote for your favorites! 

 

THE BIG GAME WARM-UP PARTY

Saturday, February 1, 2020      Doors open for Dinner/Dancing combo at 5:00pm, Buffet Line opens at 6:00pm, Band starts at 7:30pm

Tickets:  BBQ Buffet & Dancing:  $35.00/pp-reserved seating.  Enjoy just the Band:  $20.00/pp-general seating (doors open at 7:15pm)

Kick the cold out of February and get your Big Football Weekend off to a sizzling start!  Warm up with a BBQ Buffet and all the fixin’s then dance the night away to classic rock and country hits perfomed by Newport’s hometown band, Rusted Chrome.  This party will be the GOAT!

 

104th WINTER CARNIVAL PAGEANT

Friday, February 14, 2020, 7:00pm      Doors open at 6:30pm

Tickets:  $18.00 per person.  Reserved seating.  

Continuing a tradition in the nation’s longest running Winter Carnival, beautiful young women will grace the stage at the Newport Opera House competing for their spot in history.

 

THE LOGGER COMEDY SHOW

Saturday, March 14, 2020, 8:00pm

Tickets:  $25.00/pp in advance, $30.00/pp at the door           Rated “SC” – Some Cussin’!

Actor/Comedian Rusty DeWees is best known for his iconic LOGGER persona – a Vermonter to the core – and his one-man comedy shows are often described as Blue Collar Comedy meets Prairie Home Companion.  This guy from the other side of the river will fill the Opera House with gut-bustin’ humor  and real Northern New England flavor!    This event partially funded by SUGAR RIVER BANK.

 

SILVER SCREEN & ICE CREAM!

Tickets:  $12.00 per adult, $6.00 per child ages 4-12   (Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event.)

There is no better way to spend a Satruday afternoon during mud season than enjoying an ice cream sundae with your favorite toppings while watching a family-friendly movie on the big screen!  Bring something comfy to sit or lay on if you’d like.   This event made possible by a generous donation from CARROLL CONCRETE.

 

THE VOICES THAT CARE SINGING CONTEST & FUNDRAISER

A music-filled evening based on “The Voice,” the popular reality TV show.  Contestants go before a panel of judges, with the ultimante winner chosen by the audience.  Ticket sale proceeds go towards costs to ship care packages to members of the military serving around the world.  It’s a worthy cause and a fun, interactive evening!

In this gleefully, gruesome musical, Seymour, an orphan and a nerd, is taken in and given a job by Mr. Mushnik, the owner of a run down Florists on Skid Row. Seymour spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of the shop assistant, Audrey. One day, just after an eclipse of the Sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant. He buys it and names is Audrey II. While caring for Audrey II, Seymour discovers the plant’s rather unique appetite. The plant grows and grows, as does Seymour’s infatuation for Audrey, but who will get her first? SUNSHINE TOWN SOCIAL

The Sunshine Town Social is a vibrant evening of bidding & socializing to benefit and provide critical support for the programs of the Newport Opera House Association and the Library Arts Center.  Both live and silent auctions feature items donated by local busniesses and a catered dinner make for a very special fundrasing event!  This event made possible through a generous donation from LAVALLEY BUILDING SUPPLY.
